Westside Cottage is a most charming two/three bedroom detached property, one of a pair of splay-fronted lodges defining the entrance to the former Blackadder House. The property stood unoccupied for many years during which time it fell into a completely derelict state. We began a process of sympathetic and specialised restoration, retaining as much of the original stonework as possible to ensure the character of this historic property was preserved. The degree of decay was considerable and the property required a great deal of skillful renovation but step by step the property was lovingly transformed into the stylish home we see today.
This was a most rewarding and satisfying project, not only because we had the opportunity to restore such an important property in Allanton's history, but taking it completely back to basics enabled us to add all the modern conveniences and energy efficiency so eagerly sought after in today's modern home.
The property has been completed to an extremely high specification with superb levels of insulation in the walls, floors and attic, together with underfloor heating, solid oak floors and doors, stylish contemporary kitchen and a spectacular open plan living area which is flooded with natural light. The garden wilderness was carefully tended and designed for easy maintenance with the magnificent curved stone wall and cast iron railings restored to their former glory. The addition of a suntrap patio area created a wonderful place to sit and admire this charming cottage.
